a memo that the bet video department got has this listing of artists to not spin
this doesnt count old ish just newer stuff
The following artists are banned from airplay(meaning all their NEW videos):
Kool G. Rap Craig G MC Lyte Buckshot Kool Keith A Tribe Called Quest A+ Jeru The Liks The Artifacts AZ Bad Seed Bahamadia Da Brat Goodie Mob Bone Thugs N Harmony Black Moon Methodman E-40 Canibus Afu Ra Cappadonna Channel Live Cocoa Brovaz Freddie Foxxx GZA El-P D.O.C. Diamond D dead prez De La Soul MF Doom Camp Lo Geto Boys Brand Nubian Boot Camp Clik KRS One Black Sheep Raekwon 4th Avenue Jones Heather B Jayo Felony Killah Priest Lil Cease McGruff Mic Geronimo Monie Love Mos Def Ice Cube Hieroglyphics Inspectah Deck Jean Grae Nate Dogg O.C. Onyx
Reason why? Their music is not “relevant” to the BET audience. (12-19 year old black females). Buckshot speaks on it in the new XXL.
95% of that list is shit I like
This makes no sense to me. But then again, who watches BET like that anymore?
MTV owns BET.
All of the above considered. I never heard about MTV owning BET but I do believe they all have something to do with being under the same company…Viacom, I believe.
Viacom changed the programming because due to BET’s video lineup they were losing African American viewers. Majority of BET’s lineup was music video shows and gave black artists a showcase that they wouldn’t have.
Shamefully, the same channel that gave African Americans something to be proud of is now something we don’t even claim. When Bob Johnson sold BET it was the worst thing that he could have done. The brotha sold out, straight up.
